Sleeping Bag Blessings at Midland Meals

Every now and then a wonderful person in the community gives us what we need, right when we need it. Each time it happens, it blesses our day and our team. It lets us know that God is with us in all that we do.

Winter is hard for the homeless. It’s cold, wet and therefore not easy to sleep outside. At Midland Meals we try to help in any way that we can. We do this with blankets, sleeping bags and warm clothes that have been donated by the community.

However a few months ago, we were running on empty. There wasn’t much in our shed, and as we hit the wettest part of winter our shelves were depleted. In desperation we put a Facebook post out to the community asking for support. We were amazed at the responses we received. We have a wonderful Facebook following that always helps us in times of need. We have learnt that God can use anyone regardless of their age as long as they have a heart for service.

A father saw our plea for help that evening and was straight onto it. He and his two kids ran to the shops and headed for the camping section. The kids were excited as they selected the sleeping bag colours they were going to buy and donate to people in need.

The sleeping bags came to us the next night, along with massive smiles from the kids. They were much needed, as we had just passed out the last sleeping bag we had.

The kids joined the team for the night and got to experience the joy that comes from helping out others.

It’s awesome to see how God uses the youngest of people, and a few sleeping bags, for His glory.

So whether you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
