Derby Outreach

In early October, I travelled to Derby to work with the local pastor Gavin Dagg. We conducted a short evangelistic series for the people in the community. The local church hired a 25 seater bus. Gavin’s wife Bev drove the bus out to the local community of Mowanjum, and around town, to pick up families for a meal and the program.

Derby is a small town 220km’s north east from Broome and has a large Aboriginal population. The program started on Sabbath with good attendance and during the week there was little drop in numbers. I shared fun stories with the children and engaged them in reading the Bible verses for the adults out loud. On Wednesday night the Karalundi school staff and some students attended the program. That night I gave an appeal and 19 people, including some older children, came forward for Baptism.

Pr Gavin will continue to oversee the Bible Studies. However, he has been mentoring a local member in conducting Bible Studies for a small group of women who were part of the group requesting baptism.

I was delighted to be part of the program for the week and he is looking forward to seeing the outcome of the Bible Studies.
