2024 WGEA Business Statement - Pay Gap Report

The Seventh-day Adventist Church (Western Australian Conference) aims to reflect the character of Jesus Christ in all our interactions. We thrive as an ethnically diverse Christian community that allows our colleagues and volunteers to interact within the broader community as we serve the needs of others and share the good news of Jesus’ soon return. We strive to treat all others as equals, regardless of religious beliefs, age, gender, and ethnicity.

Achieving our aims depends on analysing current data to give us a picture of where we currently stand. This data helps to inform strategies for future improvement and comes from sources like our annual AUC [church service] attendance reports and pay gap data.

It is important to emphasise that we do not pay people differently based on their ethnicity or gender. We pay all employees the same based on years of experience within their current roles.

Our gender gap is not caused by paying people of different genders or ethnicities at different rates. Our gender gap is caused by our leadership roles, such as pastors and Discipleship Ministries Team members being predominately male, and our lower-paid jobs are staffed mainly by females.

The pay gap report highlights that our governance body, the Board of Directors for SDA Church (WA Conference) Ltd. is comprised of 31% females and 69% males. We are endeavouring to bring this closer to parity.

We are continuing to plan and set strategic goals that will see a more balanced workforce and governance body. This process is happening at a slower rate than we would wish.
