President’s Scholarship

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Australia recognises and values the skills that committed Adventist graduates offer its institutions. It also recognises the challenges of transitioning from school to university, and the uncertainties of changing careers.

To assist in this journey of transition, the Western Australian Conference offers the President’s Avondale Scholarship to approved Adventist Ministry / Theology, Education, Business, and Nursing students. The scholarship is worth $10,000 in total ($5,000 per semester) for the first year of the recipient’s course, to be spent on tuition, accommodation at Avondale, a meal package at 7@Avondale, or a combination of these.

The President’s Avondale Scholarship is funded and managed by the Conference in harmony with the guidelines approved by Avondale University.

ELIGIBILITY

All students who are considering studying a Ministry / Theology, Education, Business, or Nursing degree at Avondale University, and who meet the criteria below, are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

CRITERIA

Applicants must:

  1. Be a citizen or permanent resident of Australia or New Zealand;

  2. Reside within Western Australia;

  3. Be connected to a local Seventh-day Adventist church, and demonstrate authentic practical Christian faith and a desire to serve Jesus;

  4. Be a baptised member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, or be preparing for baptism in consultation with their pastor;

  5. Be willing to be interviewed as part of the selection process;

  6. Meet Working with Children and other legal requirements;

  7. Maintain ongoing enrolment for the first year of their degree course at Avondale University;

  8. Be willing to accept a two-year bond of service with the Seventh-day Adventist Church following graduation, in any of the locations nominated in their application.

CONDITIONS

  1. The scholarship cannot be deferred;

  2. The scholarship is awarded subject to the applicant meeting Avondale University’s normal admissionrequirements;

  3. Only prospective students who intend to attend Avondale University in person and live on campus are eligible for the scholarship;

  4. The recipient must undertake a study load of at least 18 credit points (3 units) per semester;

  5. Continuance of the scholarship depends on the recipient maintaining an academic status of “Good

  6. Standing” by passing more than 50% of units in a semester;

  7. Applications for the scholarship are sent to the President, and recipients are chosen by a Scholarship

  8. Committee comprising the President, the General Secretary, and the Youth Director;

  9. The Scholarship Committee may award the scholarship to more than one applicant, to a combined total value of $10,000 for the year;

  10. Fifty per cent of each recipient’s agreed amount is paid after the census date in each semester, provided Good Standing is maintained;

  11. The scholarship is not redeemable for cash, and is applied to the recipient’s tuition, meals, and accommodation account;

  12. The recipient is bonded to the Seventh-day Adventist Church for two years following graduation from the course for which the scholarship was awarded;

  13. The recipient must be of good standing in the community. The Scholarship Committee may revoke a scholarship, or part of a scholarship, where the recipient is considered to have brought the name of Avondale University or the Seventh-day Adventist Church into disrepute.

Completed applications must be received no later than 31 October 2026.

Applicants may be interviewed by the Scholarship Committee. Successful applicants will be advised once the Committee has considered all applications.
