Thank You, Steve!

Thank You, Steve: A Faithful Follower of Christ, Leader and Friend
At the close of the upcoming Constituency Meeting on 13–14 September, Pastor Steve Goods will retire from his role as President of the Western Australian Conference. It marks the end of an era for someone who has given so much to the WA Conference, its members, and the wider Church.
Steve’s first career as a high school teacher began in country Victoria where he taught high school science and physical education for four years. Feeling the call to ministry, Steve attended Avondale College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Ministry in 1989.
Steve began his ministry journey as an intern in January 1990 and was ordained in December 1994. He joined us in WA in 1997, serving at Livingston Church and quickly becoming known for his easy-going manner, deep pastoral heart, and genuine interest in people. He has always had time for a chat and seemingly knows every member across this vast Conference.
Over the years, Steve has held a range of leadership roles—from minister to Ministerial Association Secretary, and since 2017, President of the WA Conference. In each role, he has been a strong and compassionate leader, a mentor to many, and a champion for pastoral care and healthy churches. He’s always been a storyteller, able to draw laughter and wisdom in equal measure, and never shied away from speaking his mind, whether about matters of faith or the fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club and his preferred political party!
Through both the successes and challenges of leadership, Steve has remained a faithful follower of Jesus. His steady walk with Christ has been evident in his decision-making, his compassion, and his vision for the Church. Retirement may mark the end of his formal ministry, but Steve’s commitment to Christ continues into this next chapter of his life, just as strong.
Despite his leadership responsibilities, Steve has never lost touch with his roots. At heart, he remains the boy from the country farm. He wears his heart on his sleeve, cares deeply for people, and has always strived to relate to every generation and culture. Whether walking the Kokoda Track or planting churches, his leadership has always been more about people than position.
Alongside him, every step of the way, has been Lee, his thoughtful and supportive wife. Their three adult children and two grandchildren are the pride of his life, and we know Steve is looking forward to more time with them.
On behalf of the WA Conference, we thank you, Steve and Lee, for your many years of faithful service, your leadership, your care, and your friendship. You have left a lasting legacy, not only in the work you’ve done but in the hearts of those you’ve served.
We wish you both God’s richest blessings, and some well-earned rest, as you step into the next phase of life.
