Good Stewards of a Good Gift

How the Carmel Estate is being renewed for the next generation of mission
For more than a century, Carmel has been far more than paddocks and buildings. It is a place where young people have found Jesus, families have poured out their lives in service, and many faithful disciples have been educated and sent out into ministry and mission around the world. It carries the prayers and sacrifices of generations before us. As decisions are made about its future, one question guides everything: how do we steward what God has entrusted to us so that Carmel keeps bearing fruit for His mission, for the generations still to come?
Investing in Our Students, Today
Part of the Estate has recently been released to help fund some overdue care for the campus, and every dollar raised has gone straight back into Carmel Adventist College. A resurfaced entryway road now gives students, staff and visiting families a safer, better-presented approach to the school, often the very first impression a new family has of Carmel. A fully refurbished toilet block has restored dignity and function to facilities our young people use every single day, the kind of everyday need that’s easy to overlook but matters greatly to those who rely on it. These are quiet, unglamorous projects, but they are the kind of faithful stewardship that rarely makes headlines and yet makes all the difference to a student’s daily experience of school, and to the impression Carmel leaves on every family who visits. A further $1.4 million remains from the sale of the old dairy site, held carefully as we continue to seek God’s direction for its best use, so that whatever comes next is built on the same foundation of care.

Looking Ahead in Faith
The story doesn’t end with roads and toilets. The Conference is now looking further down the road, quite literally, through a Master Planning committee made up of a broad spread of stakeholders with a genuine interest in Carmel’s future: students, parents, local church members, the wider church family, school leadership, and Conference representatives all have a voice around the table. This committee is doing the careful, prayerful work of imagining what full, fruitful use of these properties could look like for the next season of mission, so that buildings, land, and resources can best serve students, staff, and the wider church family for years to come.
It’s been encouraging to watch this group at work, moving from surfacing big-picture ideas, to agreeing a shared strategic direction, and now shortlisting options and preparing to engage professionals for a staged, long-term vision. This isn’t a quick or casual exercise; it’s the kind of patient, prayerful planning that will shape Carmel for decades, and the committee has taken that responsibility seriously at every step. Nothing has been finalised, and as this work continues, we’re committed to walking the journey openly with you: communicating clearly and consulting genuinely as decisions take shape, because Carmel belongs to all of us, and its future should be shaped together.
An Invitation to Pray and Partner
We invite every member to keep Carmel, its students, and the Master Planning committee in prayer as this next chapter takes shape. Pray for wisdom for those at the table, for creativity as they imagine what’s possible, and for a plan that honours both Carmel’s history and its calling to keep making disciples long into the future. We’re grateful to walk this journey together, and we look forward to celebrating with you all that God is doing on this beloved piece of ground.
To God be the glory, for the past, and for all He still has planned for Carmel.
